Welding

With our team of skilled professionals, Empire Laser & Metal Work is a trusted source for welding projects of any magnitude. We have the flexibility to manage production of both small parts and large parts in quantities from single pieces to high volume orders. Capable of welding a variety of both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, we produce zero-defect, distortion-free welds according to the highest quality standards.

In addition to traditional resistance welding equipment that uses filler material to create the joint, our modern facility is equipped with solid state welding equipment for bonding metals using only heat and pressure. Each welding technique has advantages depending on the two materials being joined, as well as the length and orientation of the seam, and our technicians select the most suitable process for producing the best quality results.

Our 80 and up years in the metal fabrication industry bring great depth to our knowledge and proficiency. We have excellent problem-solving capabilities and can help you find solutions to your most difficult joining challenges. Our experience spans many industries, including oil & gas, aerospace, and medical, and we also welcome the opportunity to work with clients on small projects in the residential, construction, and architectural markets

Arc/Resistance Welding Processes:FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding) - This process uses similar equipment as GMAW but in place of standard solid wire uses wire consisting of a steel electrode surrounding a powder fill material.

GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) - Also known as metal inert gas or MIG welding.

GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) - Also known as Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding. This process uses a nonconsumable tungsten electrode, an inert gas and a separate filler material. This process is sometimes mistakenly referred to as Heliarc welding.

MIG - Metal Inert Gas welding, also referred to as Gas Metal Arc Welding.

Resistance - Resistance welding is a process where heat is generated by passing current through the resistance caused by the contact between two or more metal surfaces to be joined.

SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) - Also known as Manual Metal Arc Welding or Stick welding. This process uses a consumable electrode rod, which as the filler material, that is covered in flux that protects the weld area from oxidation and contamination.

Spot - Spot welding is form of resistance welding used to join overlapping metal sheets. Two electrodes are used to clamp the sheets together and pass the current between them.

Stud - Stud welding is a form of Spot welding where a bolt or weld nut is welded to another metal part. The bolts are often fed automatically into the welder.

Submerged Arc - Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) is a welding process in which the arc is struck beneath a layer of flux which increases arc quality and blocks atmospheric contaminants.

TIG - Tungsten Inert Gas welding. Also referred to as Gas Tungsten Arc Welding.
Frictional/Fusion Welding Processes:Diffusion Bonding - Diffusion Bonding is a process that fuses metals using only heat and pressure to achieve the bond.

Magnetic Pulse - Magnetic Pulse Welding is a process that creates high speed solid state welds by using magnetic pressure to accelerate one electrically conductive metal surface against another metal surface.

Oxy-Fuel Flame - This process uses a flame from the combustion of oxygen and a fuel gas such as acetylene to melt the materials being joined. This process typically produces a larger Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) than other welding processes.
